Rings and Amulets can have +armor properties as well. (And some special weapons add defense too.) Hat, shield, chest armor, boots, gloves, and belt, all add defense. Higher defense means fewer enemy hits land, though there’s much more than that to it, of course.Ī defense value is found on every piece of equipment in the game, except for weapons. Defense in D2 is equivalent to “armor class” in most games (it was called that in Diablo I) it’s essentially a measure of the quality of your character’s armor. You very rarely get hit by melee and when u do, your Bone armor absorbs most if not all damage.ĭefense is one of the key character stats in most RPGs, and Diablo II is no exception. Personally, I’m a fan of max block with homunculus and a decent level bone armor. Homunculus is a pretty decent option for half the str req and the high block rate gives you additional options for defense that spirit wouldn’t. Depending what type of necromancer you are, and if u are PVE or PVP focused, I would recommend considering other shield options than Spirit if u dont have torch/anni. Shop around in normal and try on different armor types until u find one u like the appearance of the most, then look at the stat requirements of norm/exceptional/elite versions, and pick 1 that seems the STR requirement isn’t too bad. Your armor selection for enigma has almost always been about fashion. Also, Defense is mostly negligible as stated above, Vitality is the more prioritized defensive stat, and the less points you commit to str, the more u can commit to vit. The game will only save 1 corpse, so if u die, go to pick up your gear but cant pick it all up, and die again, whatever gear was left on your first corpse will be lost if u cant recover it and have to leave the game. I’m not sure if the game still behaves this way, but creating 2 separate corpses used to be the fastest way to lose your gear. Also, if you meet the requirement with the charms as indicated, then do the swap, if you remove the charm(s) that give you the required stat from your inventory, the newly equipped item becomes “red” and unusable, and thus no longer provides stats or bonuses of any kind, including its base attributes.Įven if you could put on a bunch of STR items to equip the armor, u will be in a real tough situation if u ever die and have to pick up your body. In that case you need at least the same amount of required stat from additional charms to make the swap. The reason is simple: If you meet the requirements with the gear you have on now but you no longer meet the requirements when taking off the piece of gear you’re replacing, you can’t do the swap. I found that out the hard way when my previous Harmony runeword in an Ashwood bow gave me exactly the Dex I needed to upgrade to a Matriarchal bow (same runeword), only it wouldn’t let me equip it despite me meeting the requirements. That no longer works, same as Eth bugging no longer works. You will not be able to equip Enigma in this instance (that’s what was known as STR bugging). So if Enigma requires 88 STR for your current situation and chosen armor base for it, you must have 88 STR from stat points, charms, and other gear or else you cannot equip Enigma.Īnd here’s the kicker: Let’s say you need 88 STR and you have 78 STR and your current armor that Enigma will replace has +10 STR. To equip Enigma (or any item with requirements for that matter) you must meet those requirements with a combination of stat points, other gear, and/or charms before you can equip the item. Guys what about the part where i asked if I can equip enigma using str boosts like rings and charms and then take them off my and still have enigma working due to its str boost from lvl?
